Can we regrow organs? Mice Can!

According to a news item on Wired News, some mice are able to regrow organs.

Researchers systematically amputated digits and damaged various organs of the mice, including the heart, liver and brain, most of which grew back.

While the quote above does sound cruel, just think of the implications of this if the ability was reproduced in humans (and other animals for that matter).

Of course, it’s not like we could take a bullet to the chest and pass it off like the terminator in T3, but it sure would be nice to be able to replace lost limbs like fingers and toes.

That said, I want to state for the record, that I don’t like to see cruelty to animals.

  • Another Abysmal Result

    First a 1-1 draw at home to Man City and now a 1-2 defeat (again at home) at the hands of Blackburn.

    Come on Ferguson, get it together…. please!

    You can clearly see that United are not the same team when Keano isn’t there. What are they going to do when he retires? Alan Smith certainly is no Roy Keane and never will be. He’s a striker, simplat as that. Quit playing him out of position.

    United need to invest a lot in new players. Smith, Richardson, Park, O’Shea just aren’t cutting the mustard right now. We don’t need good players in a few years time. We need them now!

    So, shell out the bucks Fergie (or Glazer) and put United back in contention.

  • Keane Suffers Broken Foot

    Keane suffers broken foot

    Bad news. Really bad. Not just for United but also for the Republic of Ireland.

    He’s the glue that holds both teams together. This makes Ireland’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup much much harder.

    The fact that’s it a metatarsal bone probably means he won’t be able to rush it. The last thing he needs to is rush back from an injury like this. If he does, it could mean a premature end to his career - which is not what any Ireland or United fan wants!

  • Email Injection Attacks

    Over the past week or so I’ve been the unfortunate bearer of email injection attacks on two of my sites. It’s no fun I can assure you!

    So, I’ve had to search for anything that can help me overcome these nasty so and so’s. That’s when I came across an article called Email Injection - SecurePHP.

    While it does explain how the spammers were able to exploit the contact forms on my sites, it’s example of how to stop it from happening doesn’t seem to have worked. I implemented the neccessary changes last nite, but first thing this morning I received the same junk emails in my inbox - which suggests I’ve not stopped the rot

    I’ve also tried this suggestion on the PHP site, but I don’t believe that has worked either. Maybe I should give it a few days to see for sure.

    * Fingers Crossed *

    Update

    The spam emails seem to have stopped from one domain but not the other, which is strange considering I implemented the same filter on both forms. So more searching was required to find an alternative solution. That’s when I came across this piece of code, which I hope will put an end to these email injection attacks once and for all.

    * Fingers Crossed Again *

    Update 2

    Well, the last change seems to have done the trick. I haven’t received any more spam emails from my own forms. I just hope posting this update doesn’t put a curse on me
