There’s an interesting story posted on the BBC Technology website about the impact bloggers can have on those in positions of responsibility and about how journalists are not too impressed about it all.
Well worth a read.

Wired Vision has been successfully upgraded to WordPress v1.5.
While the upgrade itself was pretty straight forward, the additional pages that I added myself took a bit of time to get right because of the introduction of “themes”.
The admin control panel has had some slight modifications. The addition of the “Dashboard” as the homepage when you log in is a good idea, but I’d prefer an option to disable it
Other than that I’ve no complaints. Job well done!
According to a story over at Wired:
Researchers at the University of California at Los Angeles have tweaked HIV to create a gene therapy that attacks cancer tumors in mice.
It’s nice to know that research into the cure for cancer is advancing, but would it be worth infecting yourself with HIV? I guess at least with HIV you can lead a considerably normal life (well some can). But then again, how can anyone be sure that you could? Do doctors have some way of telling?
Seeing as both HIV and Cancer are terminal, which is the more painful way to die?
If I was in the unfortunate situation of having to decide which to choose, I’m not sure I could. Then again, maybe nobody will have to because we don’t know for sure if this will work on humans or not.
Do you have a scroll wheel in your mouse? Does it work properly? Mine doesn’t.
I have it set to scroll every three lines. But after a few turns it starts jumping more than three lines at a time. Then if I try scrolling back up, the page starts moving upwards but then it scrolls back down again. Why is that?
Usually if the mouse movement starts acting up on me I simply clean it out and all is well again. But from what I can there is no way to clean the scroll wheel. Maybe it’s time for a new mouse?
I’d like to have a wireless mouse and keyboard but I haven’t really had enough of a reason to get them. Maybe this is the reason I’ve been looking for ![]()
If there’s one thing that really bugs me about the Broadband (DSL) packages on offer here in Ireland, it’s the requirement of annual contracts. In fact it doesn’t just bug me, it frustrates the hell out of me. Why can’t the Telco’s offer monthly contracts? Or quarterly contracts for that matter.
I mean come on… so much can change in a year! I might not be around this time next year, or I might decide to move house 6 months from now. I understand why there’s a need for annual contracts on mobile phones (cellphones). With them they make their money back on the price of the phone. The same could be said about Broadband packages offering a free modem with them, but all the Broadband packages here state that the modem remains the property of the Telco’s until the contract expires. So you’re not even paying for the modem!
So, why force someone into a 12 month contract when there is absolutely no need? And they (the Telco’s) can’t use the excuse that they have to have some way to pay for the upkeep of the lines because the cost of Broadband is extortionate enough (averaging around €40 per month – along with a bandwidth limit!).
